He took college classes in electronics and by 1972, he began working at a recording studio.[2] He started to record with musician friends and during this period he formed Blanket of Secrecy with Pete Marsh and Andy Howell. In 1974, he met with the founders of Stiff Records, Jake Rivera and Dave Robinson, and began working with the artists on Stiff Records, including Nick Lowe, Lene Lovich, and Elvis Costello.[2]
Bechirian has also worked with Dave Edmunds and Paul Carrack, and produced The Monkees' reunion album 'Pool It!' in 1987, amongst others.[2]
